Point Discovery gets information about data points in the controller. You will perform point discovery typically when you commission the gateway for the first time. In the Device Manager environment, you can perform point discovery for all controllers on the C-Bus in one shot. In the Point Manager environment, you can perform discovery individually for each controller.

Discovery process discovers:

  • point name
  • point descriptor
  • point type
  • point technical units for analogue points
  • active/inactive texts for digital points

During the discovery process, the BACnet instance-id of the data point is also generated. The initial BACnet name of the data point is identical to the C-Bus name. You can change the BACnet point name later in the BACnet client.

Before you run Point Discovery, enable the checkbox in the upper right corner of the controller's icon for all the controllers whose data you want to retrieve automatically and click the Save button. Point discovery ignores controllers that are not enabled.

Then start the discovery process by clicking the Discover Points button. The discovery process is presented in a popup window and can be aborted at any time by clicking the Cancel button.

After discovery is finished, close the popup window. By default, all discovered data points are initially selected for export into the BACnet.

Point Discovery is a reentrant process. You can repeat it at any time. In particular, you must repeat the discovery after a controller's application update. In such a case, you can also use the individual discovery per controller in the Point Manager.
